Is it possible for me to install a new hardrive for a G3 ibook from 2002 myself?
August 30th, 2009 | by admin |I bought a new harddrive off of ebay, its 80g to replace the one that came in my computer, a G3 Ibook with a 30g hardrive. I need to know if this is something I can do myself, or do I have to get it done professionally. How much do I have to take out of my computer to get to the old harddrive? Do I need any special tools? Do I have to do any sodering?
There should be no soldering needed. You should be able to open the G3 and find a place for your new HD without any trouble. The only things you should need is a screw driver, could be philips, torx or regular. You will see once you have the system open. It should have plenty of power cords inside for this and possible an extra ribbon cable or room on the existing ribbon cable.
You could even install this drive as a secondary and then have 110GB of storage.
