Apple’s “Get a Mac” ad: “Trainer”

September 4th, 2009 | by admin |

http://www.macdailynews.com PC tries to shape up with the help of “trainer” Robert Loggia, but he’ll never catch Apple Macintosh. That’s the bane of a perpetual follower like Microsoft’s existence.

In the new ad, Loggia (”Big,” “Scarface,” and “Independence Day,” among hundreds of other projects) plays a physical trainer trying to whip poor PC into shape with inspirational messages such as, “Come on get started you bucket of bolts” — which we imagine has to be pretty close to, if not exactly, how the Windows sufferers start each miserable day — and “PC Mag rated Mac #1 in customer support. Are you just going to take that?”

Already tired, PC begs for some positive reinforcement and trainer Loggia says sarcastically, “Suuure, you’re doing a good job Mac!” To which Mac replies, “Thanks.”

    No it’s not …
No it’s not overplayed or “hyped”. Most cpu’s have a shutdown threshold which is why it is really hard to burn one out. But if you want to push your hardware at those temps be my guest. It’s your money.

BTW: CPU’s can withstand temperatures up to 190F (87C) without causing any real damage to them. The whole CPU heat thing is really overplayed and just mainly hype.

    I got nearly 30 GB …
I got nearly 30 GB back upgrading to SL.

As far as the hotter claim: that’s just in Flash player (such as YT vids and such). That’s because they made Flash Player a completely separate process in SL.

Solution: Disable flash in Safari and use Firefox to browse Flash-based sites. Problem solved.

    Additionally, …
Additionally, Windows 7 can install right on top of Windows Vista, just as Snow Leper can on top of Leopard. Windows 7 can NOT be installed on top of XP, just like Snow Leopard can NOT be installed on top of Tiger. See where I’m going with this?

And last I checked, no matter what OS you run, doing a clean install is the best option.

    Defensive much?

    Defensive much?

Just look around at engadget, CNET and other places. Snow Leopard breaks compatibility with a good number of apps that ran just fine on Leopard.

Additionally, several people have stated their computers run 10-15 degrees celsius hotter with Snow Leopard, including my friend, who owns a MacBook and says the fan is constantly running quite loudly.

    ummm if 7GB= JUST …
ummm if 7GB= JUST printer drivers, how come i got back 14 GB? and people have reported getting up to 20GB back? did we have 2 (or 3) copies of each printer driver? No! Type this into google and read the article: “Snow Leopard changes how file and drive sizes are calculated” Trust me it has little to do with printer drivers!

    wait wait wait… …
wait wait wait… which of your macs has overheated due to a “service pack”? becuase ive gone thru 8 with leopard (10.5.0 - 10.5.8) and havnt experienced that. Break compatability? like what? Most of my apps still work and with Rosetta you can run PowerPC apps from 4+ years ago and serious dev update their apps. and what “odd unexplainable problems” u talkin about? hav u read how easy it is to install SL on TOP of Leo? Have fun wiping ur hd clean w win7. im still enjoying my freed 14GB!!

For god sake, man, is that hard to add useless few gigabytes of printer drivers to a leopard and then took it away saying “Snow leopard will took 7GB less”??
People, THINK A BIT, Mac OS is really great but you shouldn’t be mindless fanatics!

And Snow Leopard is just Leopard. They’re both service packs, woo! Only, our service pack doesn’t make our computers overheat, break compatibility with a lot of apps, restrict the hardware you can run it on to 3 years or newer and cause odd, unexplainable problems…

Looks like you guys have your own Vista now. :)

I personally think Macs are better than P.Cs i have used P.Cs for 19 years.

I bought a Mac when i started Uni and havent looked back. i recommend mac computers to all my friends and family and those that have taken my advice are really happy and cant believe they wasted their time on PCs. alot of my housemates who bought pc’s when they started uni have countless problems with viruses and blue screens of death while my mac is fine!

aslong as your not a pc gamer you should get a mac!
