How do I reinstall OS X but keep all my programs, settings, and preferences?

February 11th, 2010 | by admin |

My Macbook Pro running 10.5.6 is running a bit slow and I would like to reinstall OS X but I want to make sure all my programs (especially those with licenses), preferences, and settings are intact after I reinstall.
How do I do this?

Thank you!

You cannot do that, To reinstall your OS you will have to format your drive first. That means you will loose everything.
It is very drastic to do that. There must be an easier way.
When you would have had XP I would have given you these progams to give you computer a good clean up.
They are not for a mac.
I give you a website that is completely for a macbook
All software, utilities, info everything is for macs
You can look for simular programs I gave you for Windows XP.

I have no experience with Macs, but, to keep your programs, make a separate partition and move your files there.

I haven’t figured out why people tend to say their Mac is running slow. I don’t have this kind of problem with my Linux Operating system, so I can only guess it is some kind of program running in the back ground. To reinstall means to totally reformat the computer hard drive and install the operating system. Yes you lose everything. Can you these to an external hard drive or burn them to a Data CD? I really don’t have an answer that would solve what you asked. I would ask this question on the Mac Web site Forums.

    Best of Luck.
