How do you install OS X from a thumb drive?
December 6th, 2009 | by admin |I have a iMac with a non working cd drive. I need to reinstall the operating system. I don’t need to use the drive as this computer is only used for internet. I heard there is a way to install from a from a flash drive. Is this possible? Just to clarify I don’t need to install OS X to the flash drive. I need to install from a flash drive to the hard drive of my iMac.
I think you do need to install OS X on the mini-disk. How else can you expect to transfer OS X from the mini-disk to your main hard drive?
You will install OS X onto the mini-disk. Next, you boot to the mini-disk (this means your Mac must be an Intel Mac). Open Disk Utility. Click the "Restore" tab. Drag the mini-disk icon from the list at left to the "Source" space. Drag the main hard drive icon from the left to the "Destination space. Click the restore button.
