These ideas have …
These ideas have been around for a long time neither company can claim originality. OS have long development times and released dates dont say much. They are both great OS designed to work in very different milieux.
In defense of Microsoft (who have a history of bad/premature implementation)
Widgets/Sidebar - Active Desktop, conceptually identical, for W95 in 1997. Apple Dashboard in 2005.
Spotlight - Windows has offered file indexing since windows 2000 , and mac w/ os9 in ‘99.
