Updating To and Configuring OS X 10.5.6 Leopard on Lenovo S10 Netbook

July 30th, 2009 | by admin |

This is part 2 in a 3 part series.
Part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MNSW88uXKh4
Part 3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KPoKYOD3jBA

Please watch the ENTIRE video before attempting ANYTHING!

You will need a USB Keyboard, Mouse and Flash Drive to complete this tutorial. A part of the tutorial will kill the S10s keyboard and trackpad for a moment, requiring the external ones. The flash drive can be used to get the files listed below from a computer with internet access to your S10.

Files Needed:

10.5.6 Upgrade Pack, AppleACPI, bcm43xx_enabler, ClamshellDisplay, EHCISleepEnabler and EHCI Readme found here:
http://tinyurl.com/bmerdl

Audieee and AzaliaAudio found here:
http://tinyurl.com/6aqwst

CHUD here:
http://tinyurl.com/cx6zww

OSX86Tools here:
http://tinyurl.com/czc35z
NOTE: If you experience an UN-bootable USB drive as some have, you probably need the older version of OSX86Tools. Follow this link http://tinyurl.com/ctk33p ONLY IF THE NEWER VERSION FROM THE LINK ABOVE FAILS TO WORK FOR YOU.

Sorry, can’t add the text as I wanted to from the video regarding the plist file editing. YouTube doesn’t like the code in the description apparently as it won’t save with it. You’ll have to rely on the scrolling text in the video, or, I also added a README file in the files above.

Known current issues:
-Mic & Wired Ethernet Jack Not Functional
-When resuming from sleep, erratic mouse behavior or zeros being typed sometimes appear. Simply tap the space bar key to resolve this issue if it happens to correct mouse and/or stop text.
-Trackpad System Settings Pane disappears with 10.5.6, but keeps adjustments made before update. FIX NOW AVAILABLE! LINK HERE: http://youtube.com/watch?v=KPoKYOD3jBA
-Trackpad is hyperactive at login screen, but re-enables your settings once logged in.

So i guess i would prefer a tutorial from you then from someone else as, this person did a different install route then you. I can gather where to pick up from but, we are missing links to the stuff he used. Would you mind giving a quick how to update to 10.5.7 from your install point?

Yes. But you have to get the 10.5.6 Combo Update from the Apple website. If you try to use the automatic update it will give you 10.5.7

If you didn’t get my message, I have gotten the fan working and sleep almost.

So other than a few sleep issues, the install is as solid as 10.5.6

    Press the wireless …
Press the wireless button on the laptop as soon as you boot, while the lenovo splash screen is up. Get it so the LED is blue and you should be set. You have to do it before OSX boots.

also many thanks from me for the tutorial, wouldn’t have tried without your help. but there is always a but………
followed everything and everything fine except sleep, then switched off bluetooth and wireless and sleep worked…. except now it has knocked out the wireless!! still have the wireless symbol but can’t turn it on…. have tried doing the fix and running the suggested osx86tools rebooting etc. but nothing……please any ideas?

    All probably stems …
All probably stems from the two kexts that deal with sleep… EHCI and Clamshell kexts. Reinstall those, repair permissions and clear cache using osx86tools. Then reboot. Also, if you have a bluetooth module installed, that could be the source of your problem.

    I’ve currently got …
I’ve currently got mostly everything working. My main two problems are:

1.) Sleep is iffy. When I attempt to put the machine to sleep, the screen goes black, then it just turns back on.

2.) When shutting down the screen powers off, but not everything else does. That forces me to force shut the machine down everytime I shut it down.

    Any suggestions?

What about 10.5.7? I just got my lenovo and am trying to manual update to 10.5.6 but it will not let me. If I can’t update can I still use the same kext helper stuff to get the rest work?
