    I already answered …
I already answered this question. Quote: “The Amiga was designed to run (and multitask) on just one-quarter megabyte and the modern OS 4 is still highly efficient.”

If you want more detail than that, read wikipedia about AmigaOS and “History of Amiga”. The article is very detailed.

I agree the NeXT / OS X is very very nice, and I’ve preferred to use Macs instead of Windoze, but it can’t run on 64 megabytes like Amiga OS does.

The Amiga was designed to run (and multitask) on just 256 kilobytes (one-quarter meg) and is still highly efficient.

I upgraded to Commodore Amiga OS (4.1).

It runs so unbelievably fast - mainly because it doesn’t use hard drive swapping. It’s so nice to run applications out of fast RAM instead of slow drives.

    So the Apple was …
So the Apple was never on the verge of bankruptcy? I’m fairly certain it was, circa 1996, due to lots of poor management decisions.

Had Jobs not arrived, Apple would probably be where the once-great Commodore is today (in court and dissolved).

    At the time I …
At the time I believe Apple wasn’t bankrupt, but it was a close threat, they didn’t have that much money, & though you’re right it was more of a stunt, it was still legitimate in that Apple made good use of the invested money & such.

I dunno, I might be wrong.

    $150 million was …
$150 million was nothing for a company with $7 billion in cash and w/ Steve Jobs & Larry Ellison backing Apple w/ their billions (especially when M$ was making $350 million per year on their Mac products at the time) - there was no bankruptcy danger once they came in. The investment was a PR stunt by both sides, for Apple to show investors that Microsoft was committed to Apple’s success, and for M$ to show they weren’t a monopoly - they were fighting the DOJ & the media at the time. :)

If it did Apple would be probably out of business, and at least nowhere near as strong or as profitable as it is today (and no ipods/imacs/iphones etc…)
