How do you install Mac OSx Leopard onto a PC?

May 25th, 2009 | by admin |

I have a Sony VAIO VGN-FW200 laptop. It is brand new and has Windows Vista Home Premium. I would prefer the Mac OSx though. Is there a way that I can buy Leopard and replace Vista with it? If so, how?

You can't do it with a Vaio laptop. In fact, it won't work on 99.5% of PC laptops. Getting a hackintosh to work correctly is tricky, and is hardly ever as stable as doing it on a Mac. Also, it violates Leopard's terms of use, and Psystar is getting in trouble from Apple over it (they sell computers pre-packaged with Leopard). But basically, you're out of luck. There are only specific boards you can do it on and even then, it doesn't always work right.

No, you can't. Mac OS X's license agreement states that you are only allowed to run Mac OS X on Apple hardware only.

Of course, the software will also perform checks to make sure you're running on Apple hardware. Macs have internal hardware components that are exclusive to Apple, and Mac OS X expects it to be present.

You CAN install Windows on a Mac. You CANNOT install Mac OS X on a PC.

There *are* hacks and tutorials available to get an older version of Mac OS X running on a PC, but it's only a proof of concept thing; basically proving that it can be done. It doesn't mean that it's useful.

I have done this, and it's useless (not to mention illegal). It runs painfully slow, because it's been hacked to hell just to get it running on a PC. It requires partitioning, drive imaging, and such… basically it's DANGEROUS for people who don't know exactly what they're doing.

    Just don't mess with it.

If you read the EULA or End User License Agreement on any copy of Mac OS X it specifiies that you agree to only install OS X on Mac hardware - doing anything else is illegal and therefore unsupported and not guaranteed to run as directed by Apple Inc.

However you can easily run Windows on a Mac which actually runs much better than on a PC by running either Bootcamp, VMware or Parallels and is much easier to install and manage which is also the whole point of having a Mac.

Your best options are the MacBook or MacBook Pro
