How do I reinstall OS X but keep all my programs, settings, and preferences?

My Macbook Pro running 10.5.6 is running a bit slow and I would like to reinstall OS X but I want to make sure all my programs (especially those with licenses), preferences, and settings are intact after I reinstall.
How do I do this?

You cannot do that, To reinstall your OS you will have to format your drive first. That means you will loose everything.
It is very drastic to do that. There must be an easier way.
When you would have had XP I would have given you these progams to give you computer a good clean up.
They are not for a mac.

How do I make a program do a bash script on mac osx?

I have a mac osx.

Lets say I have a program that is nothing more then a button. You press this button and it will do a bash script.

Now I have the bash script and I have the code for the button, but how do I make it so when click on the button it will do a bash script?
The program will be using certain bash tools, such as cron.

If you have "the code for the button", you have a program. Just run the bash script, or fork to it, or whatever the language the program is written in uses to run a script. (Or do the functions of the script in the program and forget the script.)

Tiger is India’s national animal any idea how many tigers are left in India?

Tiger is our national animal. I am not sure if Indian public is aware about this fact and really care, not much information available online.

Only a year ago there were calculated to be 24 tigers in the park, one of India’s 27 tiger reserves.
A century ago, India had about 40,000 tigers. By 1988, as a result of extensive hunting and poaching, there were just 4,500 left. Now the true figure is probably 1,000.

The decline is said to be largely down to poachers serving an insatiable demand for tiger bones, claws and skin in China, Taiwan and Korea, where they are used in traditional medicine. Other factors include electric fences erected by farmers, illegal logging and fights between male tigers over diminishing territory.

How do you turn on iBook screen while its off and charging?

I am charging my iBook and I turn it on. The green light appears and i hear it turn on but there is no screen it is still black. what do i do? do i leave alone for a while? help!
Ivan, thanks for your suggestion. I tried to hold down the keys, but never got a white screen.

Any other recommendations?

Try clearing the N-Vram. Do these steps.

Make sure the computer is off.
Turn on and hold the apple key, option key, and the O and F keys. (Wait until you see a white screen)
Then type reset n-vram then press enter. Then type reset-all and press enter.
The computer will restart that should do it.

How much would a screen crack in Mac OS X cost to repair?

The screen in my Mac Os X just cracked. The version is 10.4.11. Does anyone know is it repairable and how much would the repair cost?

It depends on what Mac you have and there’s not much anyone will be able to do without seeing it. An LCD replacement could be between $500-$800 so there’s a chance you’ll be better off getting a new machine…

How do you disable the text to speech function on mac osx?

This is the "say" function on OSX via terminal. I am running 10.5.6
I have disabled ssh, and I know you can edit the voice via system prefs:speech

however I want to completely disable the say function. I have far too many co-workers who enjoy scripting say commands on my computer when im not around.

My thought is that if they are doing that to you and you disable the function, then they will find something worse to do to your computer. What about setting up account users under System Preferences so you can sign out when you leave your work area (and then later sign back in with a password) without having to shut down your Mac.

why does sims 3 not work on my macintosh?

i recently got the game ’sims 3′. it says on the packaging + instructions that it works on a pc and mac, but when i press the installer button a message comes up saying ‘you can’t open this application because it is not supported on this architecture’. What does that mean and why won’t it work? what can i do to make it work?is there any different software that i need to chenge/ download in order for it to work?

macintosh browser preference and Facebook?

I am trying to upload pictures to Facebook from iphoto. When I try and log-in from the Facebook app on iphoto it keeps launching an old version of Internet Explorer which Facebook does not support. How do I change this so it launchss Safari instead?

Just don’t click "Review Album" and it won’t take you to the internet yet. Click "Back to iPhoto", and log into Facebook with Safari.

How do I put a password on my G4 Powerbook?

I have an Apple G4 Powerbook, it’s about 6 years old. It has Mac OS 10.5.8. I would like to put a password protection in it so that no one can have access, not even those using my wireless service here in my home. It had this before I had the new OS system put in. Thanks.

Go to your system preferences, the security section. You can set up there for when you want a password to use the PowerBook. You go to the accounts section to set up the password.
