Meet the LIONS & TIGERS of Big Cat Rescue!

August 2nd, 2009 | by admin |

This video introduces the viewer to all of our 18 tigers and 4 lions that currently call Big Cat Rescue home! They all come from a variety of different backgrounds, but are now enjoying life at Big Cat Rescue in the Florida sunshine!

There are not as many lions in sanctuaries as tigers. One reason is that lions end up being served as exotic meats. More here: http://www.bigcatrescue.org/000news/0articlesbybcr/2008ManEatingLions.htm

If you would like to find out more about a particular tiger or lion please visit our website:

If you would to support us in getting the laws changed regarding ownership of these cats please visit:

Thanks for watching and we hope you can visit the sanctuary to see these characters in person!

I know we have simba the tiger and simba the leopard also :) We don’t get to name any of our cats really they all keep the names they have when we rescue them, they are normally already mature animals and respond to that name so we keep it :)

    How wonderful! …
How wonderful! Kahn and China seem very happy together. I live on the east coast of Florida (Daytona Beach) and got socked with some flood damage, so my finances are in some disarray, but I want to adopt one of the tigers in the future. I just can’t decide which one. Waterbaby TJ?, Handsome Shere Kahn? Loveable Cookie? Clever Bengali? Decisions, decisions! LOL!!

    Yep, they do, they …
Yep, they do, they share a 3 acre enclosure with lake access at the back! Shere khan was rescued from a breeding facility in Indiana, when he was just a few months old. China doll was rescued along with 8 cougars from a family who were expecting a baby and dealing with terminal illness in their family, luckily khan and china were at a similar age so we introduced them.

Do Shere Kahn and China Doll live together? The film seems to indicate that. Also, where did you get Shere Kahn? Was China Doll with him?

    They are fun, Shere …
They are fun, Shere Khan doesn’t really talk much he does chuff quite a bit though. He is also just learning to do an “up” as part of his operant conditioning, he is one of the cats used on the keeper tour, he kinda just goes half way at the minute but he’s still taller than most people at that point!

Joseph’s pride (2 lions & 2 tigers) and Cameron and Zabu (male lion female white tiger) live together they were rescued living together, raised together from a young age so they don’t know any better. If we introduced a mature lion with a mature tiger they would fight. Whenever we can we keep cats together so they have company :)

We have no idea he is a former circus tiger and his tooth was broken when we took him into our care? Most probably just from biting or getting caught on a cage bar.

I love to hear the tigers “talk”. Snorkel, Flavio, Bengali and sometimes Nala, seem to be the most outspoken. But I’m really blown away by Shere Kahn! Does he chuff, or talk much?
