Why does one of my Tiger Barb fish stay away from the group?

September 23rd, 2009 | by admin |

I bought a group of 5 tiger barb fish {not the albino type} about a month ago. Just recently {about 6 days ago} i noticed that one of the fish stays away from the group and likes to single its self out all the time. Why is this! Is it sick or is the other group picking on it. I don’t know which is female and which are male, is there any way to tell?

I’ve noticed that the smaller the tank, the less fish will school. Also, if you don’t have any other types of fish in there…there’s no reason to. I’ve never been able to tell male/females apart either…..or get them to breed.

If the fish is getting picked on (chewed fins, being chased) you should put it in an isolation tank or a divider in it’s current tank to let it heal.
